One of the first specialty shops established in Shanghai after China’s reforms and opening in the 1980s, Hua Bao Lou grew to become one of the city’s largest destinations for crafts and antiques, with a diverse mid- to high-end stock that also included jewellery, paintings and calligraphy. Known for its unique retromodern style, the shop closed for renovation in 2020, with Pico appointed to provide prop production and installation and other services for phase one of the project. Reopened in December 2021, the renovated Hua Bao Lou interior recreates the eclectic traditional-modern charm of the original – very much in keeping with the Ming and Qing dynasty cues of the building’s exterior.

The 2021 edition was held at the Shanghai New International Expo Center from July to August. Pico has once again been entrusted by OPPO to activate their brand presence at the show, with services including design and build, event management and booth operation.
‘Wynn Macau Week 2021’ was one outcome of a collaboration between the renowned hotel brand and the Macau SAR Government to rejuvenate tourism by promoting Macau as a destination of choice. Between late March and early June, the ‘Wynn Macau Week 2021’ roadshow visited Hangzhou, Nanjing and Shanghai to take its message directly to a target audience of city residents and visitors.

The 19th Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition (Auto Shanghai) was the first physical A-class motor show to be held as scheduled in 2021. Themed ‘Embracing Change’, it showcased products from 1,000 companies and attracted 810,000 visitors.
For Japanese luxury carmaker Lexus, the show would be especially auspicious, marking the global launch of its latest generation ES saloon as well as the first global showcase of the advanced new LF-Z Electrified Concept. With this in mind, Pico was appointed to both plan the launch event and provide design, build and professional operational services for the marque’s 1,620 sq. m. booth.
In June 2021, Pico helped Volvo create an unconventional product launch event at the Ansa International Convention Center in Shanghai. The new product was the latest XC60, and the event’s merging of artistic elegance and football fandom aimed at boosting its audience appeal.

Polestar, a Swedish electric car brand, appointed Pico to provide professional operational services for its Auto Shanghai presence, including developing a mobile app to boost audience engagement with the brand.
Themed ‘Embracing Change’, Auto Shanghai 2021 was the first physical A-class motor show to be held as scheduled this year. As a large-scale exhibition that showcased products from 1,000 companies, stringent measures were in place to prevent viral infection, such as e-tickets, face scanning and real-name authentication for entry, and health code and temperature checks.
Pico activated an array of well-known brands at the show, including ARCFOX, Cadillac, Changan Oshan, Dongfeng Motor, Dongfeng Peugeot, GAC FCA Jeep, GAC Group, GWM, ORA, Infiniti, Lexus, Lixiang, Polestar, SAIC Motor, Škoda, WEY, Xiaopeng Motors (XPENG), Zeekr and more.
Early 2021 saw sports equipment brand Yonex host one of its twice-yearly Newest Technology and Products Trade Shows in Shanghai. As well as introducing the brand’s latest products to dealers, the event sought to raise sales and media exposure via personal appearances by badminton celebrities, including Lin Dan, Ren Chunhui, Yang Yang, Li Zhifeng and Xiong Guobao. Pico was commissioned to provide event planning, design, build and operation services.
